James C.M. Dunphy, known as Jim, passed away on May 30th, 2021 from age-related illnesses. Jim came to the United States in 1951 from Ireland. He lived in Spencerport before moving to the City of Rochester, which he's always loved with a passion. He served in the US Air Force, worked at various machine shops, and also worked as a substitute teacher for the Rochester City School District. He, along with his wife, Patty, have rescued and fostered hundreds of animals over the last few decades. Longtime Democrat and Chronicle readers may recognize that "James C.M. Dunphy" wrote over 141 Letters to the Editor between 1977 and 2014, and even won the "Golden Pen Award" in 1995. He often wrote about politics, community, and love. Jim was most proud of his family, especially his eight grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia, and his son, Kevin (Yetik).
