Alberta passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 24, 2026 at age 94. She is predeceased by her husband Howard B. Austin; son Michael Austin; brother Raymond (Elane) Barend; parents Bernard & Rose Barend. She is survived by her daughter Patti (Timothy) Gillespie; granddaughter Cori (David) Kenney; great grandchildren Grace & Quinn Kenney; brother Harold Barend; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Alberta was always happy, and she loved to share her smile with the world. She also loved to share her favorite quote, "A smartass is always better than a dumbass!" She had a long career with General Motors building Carburetors. She enjoyed gardening, making ceramics and Wii Bowling. Alberta had many friends throughout the neighborhood and also from the Mother of Sorrows bowling league that she had been a part of for many years.
In her final five years, Alberta had a great quality of life, due to the care she received from physical, occupational and speech therapists, as well as in home nurses and caretakers. Her family wishes to thank all of those people who were involved in Alberta's care throughout this time. Services are being planned for a later date, details of which will be posted here once confirmed.
