Peacefully on November 2, 2025, Doug passed away at age 82. He was predeceased by his parents Lionel and Joyce Wachter and sister Lynette (Aidan) Callery. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Dorinda Wachter (Aldrich); son Bret (Tim Wonsik) Wachter; daughter Heather Wachter; granddaughter Myranda Lockwood and extended family.
Doug served four years in the US Navy on the USS Dealey - DE 1006. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Brockport and a Master’s degree from RIT, where he also taught Optical Sciences at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf for 25 years. He had a passion for sports as he was an avid golfer and an exceptional athlete. Reading was a preferred hobby of his which he passed down to his beloved granddaughter. Doug had a love for animals, fishing, and traveling, especially to Buck Lake in Canada, where his family shares fond memories of their time together.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or Humane Society at Lollypop Farm in Doug's memory.
