Earl F. Hume Obituary

Earl F. Hume, born on August 2, 1927, in Rochester, New York, passed peacefully at age 97 on July 8, 2025. He will be remembered for his devotion, resilience, sense of humor and artistic talent. His passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of his family and friends.

Earl proudly served the United States Navy for eight years and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War in the role of carpenter’s mate and in damage control. He married Anna Barsamian, his high school sweetheart and love of his life, in 1948. One of Earl’s fondest memories was when Anna joined him in San Diego while he was stationed in California.

Earl and Anna started a family and built a home in Gates where he lived for 64 years. He worked at Eastman Kodak Company, first as a carpenter then security officer and foreman, retiring in 1983 at the age of 55. Earl found great joy in spending time with family. In the early years, summers were spent camping—visiting parks across the Northeast—and enjoying the backyard pool which he installed. In the later years, Earl, his daughters and grandchildren created fond memories vacationing in Key West, Florida. In his golden years, he enjoyed dining at local restaurants with his family and sharing meals with his friends at The Village at Unity.

Earl was a self-taught artist. Upon his retirement, he became involved in the Rochester art community. He taught continuing education art classes, joined many art clubs and sold his paintings at local festivals and art shows. Pen and ink and watercolor were his favorite mediums.

Although Earl no longer graces the lives of his family, all are blessed that he will live on in their memories. He will continue to inspire them as they carry on his love and spirit in all that they do.

Earl was predeceased by his loving wife Anna, parents James and Florence; brothers Paul, Leland, Gerton and James. He is survived by beloved daughters Karen Shaw (Ron) and Deborah Pendino (Dominic); grandchildren Brandy Rinck (Jack), Victoria Shaw (Robb), Jacob Rinck (Jennifer) and David Shaw (Ashley); four great grandchildren Alexa Rinck, Jaxon Rinck, Rowan Shaw, Amelie Shaw; and many nieces and nephews.

Interment will be private. Friends and family are invited to call during Earl’s Celebration of Life on July 22, between 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Rohrbach Brewing Company Railroad Street location.
