Edward Charles Mauro, age 77, of Gates, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023, with his devoted family by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy; loyal sons, Jeffrey (Kim) and Douglas; and his adoring grandchildren, Kari, Matthew, Lara and Logan. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Beverly (Normand) and brother-in-law, David (Joan), many nieces, nephews, extended family and his cat, Giz.
Ed was born in Media, PA on September 1, 1945, the only child of Edward and Margaret Mauro. He attended Drexel University and then RIT where he received his Masters in Electrical Engineering. After his father passed away in 1982, Ed looked after his mother and her sisters, Ethel and Bobbi, and made frequent visits to their homes in the Poconos until the ladies relocated to Rochester, where Ed and Nancy lived and raised their sons. Ed worked as a senior scientist at Kodak for 38 years and was extremely active (alongside his wife) for 22 years with the Gates Volunteer Ambulance as an ambulance driver and board president. He also volunteered at the Rochester Museum & Science Center and worked tirelessly on the exhibits, electronics and his final project, The Erie Canal. Ed and Nancy made a great team and won many "volunteers of the year" awards together. They also traveled frequently - just the two of them and with family - throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Australia and South Africa. In addition to his work and community service, Ed was an amazing and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer sound advice and entice his grandkids with $5 to try a new food! He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
A remembrance service, open to all, will be held Saturday, May 6 from 3-6p pm at the Strasenburgh Planetarium, 663 East Ave, Rochester, NY 14607. Donations may be made in Ed's memory to the Gates Volunteer Ambulance or the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
