Helen was the loving daughter of the late William F. Lee and Monica R. Lee (nee Kress); Helen is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of more than 40 years, David N. Cox. She is forever cherished by her siblings James P. (Sue) Lee, Daniel F. (Pat) Lee, Patricia A. (Brian) Fredette, Eileen M. (Philip) Cichetti, Gerald T. (Darlene) Lee, Edward J. Lee (Teressa Baker); several nephews & nieces whom she loved dearly, Kelliann, William, James, Robert, Thomas, Corinne, Joseph, Ashley, Megan, Lacey, Jennifer, Alex and many aunts, uncles, cousins, grand nephews, and grand nieces.
Helen attended Monroe Community College and then started a career in banking first as a bank teller and then as a customer service representative. After moving to North Carolina, Helen found great happiness caring of two boys Nathan and Jake from infancy until their teens. She was very proud to become Jake's godmother. Since that time she had been retired but remained very close to the family.
Helen loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, bicycling, and swimming. She enjoyed traveling visiting many places throughout the Country. Her favorite trip was a cross country drive from North Carolina to Yellowstone National Park. She enjoyed concerts, reading, her neighborhood book club, and once visited the house of one of her favorite authors, Stephen King. She had her picture taken with another favorite author, Nicholas Sparks, at a local book signing. Helen was a volunteer for the National Kidney Foundation and was an active member of Transplant Recipients International Organization, an advocacy organization for people who received organ transplants. Her greatest love was her family, her many nephews and nieces, and her many dear friends.
Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, January 9th from 2 - 4 PM at James R. Gray Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 10th, beginning at 10 AM at St. Monica Church, 831 Genesee Street. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Helen would ask that everyone become an organ donor and consider a donation to breakthrought1d.org (formally the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
