Herbert "Heavy" Holmes

On February 23, 2025 at age 83. Herbert was born June 25, 1941 in Windsor, VA. He is preceded in death by his wife Geraldine E. Holmes; daughter Sharon Walker; parents Pleasant and Ella Holmes and several siblings.

He is survived by his children Veronica (Howard) Johnson, Kevin Hicks, Kimberly Poles, Christopher Poles, Luukia Holmes; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters Elberta Clarke and Marinda Gwaltney; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Heavy was a craftsman who specialized in auto body collision repair, but also had a passion for baking, and creating beautiful leather goods such as wallets, purses, belts, camera bags and other unique items. In his later years he learned how to use the internet to shop on Amazon and has collected all sorts of interesting gadgets and things. He was talented at everything he decided to try and his family will miss him dearly.

Friends are invited to call on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 11 AM – 1 PM at James R. Gray Funeral Home, 1530 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624.
