James Andrew Dunbar went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 14, 2025. James was born on March 4, 1953, to the late Andrew and Mabel (Bathrick) Dunbar.
Jim grew up on a small farm in Orangeville, NY and attended Warsaw Central School. He served in the US Army from 1970–1972, during the Viet Nam era. Following his military service he had a job he loved, working at Letchworth State Park after the flood in June, 1972. He worked on a crew that did many repairs and helped to rebuild the trail at the Lower Falls. He married Karin Roblee in 1975.
After becoming paralyzed in a tragic car accident in August, 1977, Jim and his family settled in Pike, NY. Throughout the years he became very active with the Paralyzed Veterans Association. He attended many activities and sporting events. He participated in the PVA Wheelchair Games in Puerto Rico and San Antonio, TX, medaling in several events, including hand-cycling. Jim was active in the Portageville Baptist Church for many years. When he was no longer able to attend services, he continued to support many ministries that were important to him. Through the years Jim travelled extensively and enjoyed visiting friends throughout the USA, whenever his health allowed.
Jim is survived by his very dear friend, care-giver and lifeline, Lorraine Kemp, who has been by his side for many years. He is also survived by his daughter, Donna Dunbar, of Leicester, NY and his son Andrew (Heather Teachout) of Shelby, NC; grandchildren Andrew Dunbar and Danielle Schuster, as well as bonus grandchildren Tisha (Tyler) Chapman and Max Teachout, and bonus great-granddaughters Darriella and Corrolla Chapman. Surviving siblings include Delos (Carolyn) of Lake George, NY, Mary (David) Storla of Ellensburg, WA, and JoAnn (Charles) Haskins of Williamson, NY. He will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends, including his ex-wife Karin and her husband, Bill Appleby.
There are no formal services at this time. Family and friends will gather to remember Jim and celebrate his life at a later date.
