Janice K. Proctor passed April 23, 2026, at the age of 88. She was born on March 7, 1938, to the late Gordon Proctor and Katherine Carney Proctor.
At early age Janice lived a life devoted to excellence, service and compassion. She had a profound and lasting impact on those she met.
Janice graduated with honors from St Joseph's School Albion, NY. In 1956 she was one of several students that commuted daily to St Joseph's Academy in Lockport. During high school she worked at Arnold Georgy Memorial Hospital and babysat for many Albion families. She worked at TJ Lipton during 1957 - 1958.
While attending Nazareth College in the RN program she was granted a 3-year all-expense paid scholarship to Rochester General Hospital nursing program. She graduated with honors in 1962 moved to New York City worked as a Pediatric Nurse at Babies Hospital, Columbia University. There she was one of the RN's who assisted in the inception and growth of the first neonatal units in the collaboration with Toronto Children & Hammersmith of London Hospital.
In 1970 she began her management years after graduating Magna Cum Laude with her Master's degree from Long Island University. That is when she received her long-term care experience. Janice became Assistant Director of Nursing Consultant ENYS department of Health and Associate Administrator at Monroe Community Hospital Rochester NY.
Janice relocated to several large prestigious hospitals beginning in Madison, WI, Kansas City, KS, Beaumont TX, including 5 hospitals during a 50 million dollar building program in 1980. Her last post was Director of Nursing at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL until she retired. After retirement Janice along with her best friend, Jeanette Traylor, started a medical consulting business.
Janice was a part of the Big Sister Program helping several little sisters. She loved travel foreign and domestic. These trips were shared by nieces, nephews and little sisters. She also loved interior decorating, growing plants and a special love for her poodles Missy & Toby who always traveled with her.
After coming to Rochester to care for her terminally ill brother she fell ill, became disabled and remained in Rochester ultimately locating to St John's Meadows. Her final years were made more enjoyable by the staff and community she was a part of there.
She is survived by her brother James (Barbara) of Rochester NY, her sister Marilyn Bowen of Brockport NY, many nieces, nephews and extended family scattered across the country with special mention to nephew Rex Proctor caregiver and health care advocate.
Janice is preceded in death by her siblings Alfred, Elaine Gordon and Kent.
Friends and Family are invited to Janice's graveside service on Saturday May 9, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 14687 NY 31 Albion, NY 14411.
