Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Born in Elmira, N.Y. Passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 20, aged 87. Predeceased by her husband Hugh H. Whitney, and her sister Marjorie G. Loucks. Survived by: her sister, Nancy Carlisle; her son, Grant H. Whitney, his wife Beth Whitney, and their sons Connor and Chase of Southborough MA; her daughter Julia M. Whitney, her husband Max Gadney and their son Jake Gadney of London England and a number of nieces and nephews. Jean graduated from Cornell, and also received two masters degrees from the University of Rochester. She was an accomplished teacher, and taught for more than 30 years in both the Rochester City School District and the Pittsford Central School District. Her love of opera, travel, Monarch butterflies, and group singing was surpassed only by the joy she felt when with her family and friends. We will miss her keenly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either: Third Presbyterian Church, memo line: Outreach Ministries, or Planned Parenthood.
A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held at Third Presbyterian Church on Saturday May 28th, 2022 at 11 a.m., COVID protocols permitting.
