Omar Russell Jenson, a retired Buffalo FBI Special Agent, died October 22, 2024 at the age of 100 years. Omar was born in Woodworth, North Dakota in 1924. After graduating high school, he enrolled in Valley City State Teachers College. His studies there were interrupted by the outbreak of WWII. He enlisted in the US Army and served from 1943-1946 in the European theater as a Technical Sargent in the Ordnance Department. After his service, the GI Bill enabled him to attend the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Here he received his undergraduate degree, his Bachelor of Laws and his Juris Doctorate. He joined the FBI as a Special Agent in 1950. Following his training in Washington, DC and Quantico, Virginia, he served in Memphis, Nashville, and Philadelphia before being assigned in 1952 to the Buffalo Division. He retired from the Buffalo office in April of 1979. During his 27 years as a Buffalo Special Agent, he became well known in area law enforcement circles. In the 1960’s and 70’s, he played a prominent role in criminal and intelligence investigations. As a result, he received numerous commendations from the FBI Director, J. Edgar Hoover. Omar was the Case Agent assigned to Attica State Prison during the 1971 Attica Prison Riot.
Omar was an active member of Amherst Lutheran Church and a resident of Williamsville for over 60 years. He was also a member of the Local and National Society of Former FBI Agents and a member of the Judges and Police Conference of Erie County.
Omar was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Grace (nee Mulder) Jenson and by his sister, Fern Frank. He is survived by his sister Sandra Hammer of Nashville, TN; by his children Dr. Steven (Susan) Jenson of Fort Myers, FL and Susan (Douglas) Reynolds of Scottsdale, AZ: by four grandchildren and by three great grandchildren.
A private service for family will be held at Amherst Lutheran Church.
