Obituary

Russell C. Ater, age 72. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023. Grew up in the 19th Ward and lived in West Irondequoit most of his life with his family. Russell was an avid Yankees, Alabama football, and Kentucky basketball fan. Russell spent countless hours on the golf course with his closest friends at the Riverton Golf Club. Russell was born on April 21st, 1950. He worked for over thirty five years as an Electrician for General Motors.

Russell is predeceased by his wife Jacque and parents, Marie and Morris Ater. Russell is the proud father to Ian (Jessica Wimett) Ater; granddaughter Amaya Ater; daughter Kelly Rakeman; grandchildren Tess, Riley, and Connor Rakeman. Russell is also survived by his sister Kathy Granville of Arizona; sister-in-law Sandra Shatzel; nieces Kari Granville and Elena Tomanovich, and nephew, Kolby Granville.
A small celebration of life will be held on April 22nd, 2023 from 2-4 pm at James R. Gray Funeral Home, 1530 Buffalo Rd. Russell requested that his family and friends come dressed casually - in their best Yankees, golf, or college sports attire on the 22nd. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center in Rochester, N.Y.
