Thomas A. Smith Obituary

Passed away peacefully at home, on October 1, 2025.

Tom was born in Rochester, NY on June 10, 1932. He graduated from Spencerport High School, where he lettered in basketball, baseball and soccer. He then served for three years in the U.S. Navy, based in Virginia. While in the Navy, Tom married his high school sweetheart, June Nichols.

After the Navy, Tom and June returned home to begin working and raising a family in Gates, NY. Tom developed a career in sales management in the commercial glass industry. He raised two sons, Wayne and Todd, and remained in the Rochester area until the late 1990’s. At that point, he and June retired to their favorite place in the world, the Finger Lakes. For the next 25 years they lived on Conesus Lake.  They were members of the Gates Presbyterian Church for many years, and later on became members of United Church of Christ in Lakeville, NY.

Tom was an avid sports person. He loved and excelled at all sports, in particular bowling and golf. He also developed a talent in retirement as an amateur photographer. He loved traveling with June. And he had a wonderful singing voice (deep base) and would suddenly begin singing whenever he felt happy. He was a life-long Buffalo Bills fan – never losing the faith.

Tom is survived by his two sons, Wayne (Maureen) & Todd (Melissa); five wonderful grandchildren, Eden, Caity, Allegra, Matthew and Charles.

Family & Friends are invited to the graveside service Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11AM at Westside Memorial Garden, 60 Stryker Rd Scottsville, NY 14546.
