Virginia "Ginny" Koneski Obituary

Virginia (“Ginny”) Koneski, born on February 4, 1941, passed away at Sunset House Hospice Home on February 13, 2026, at the age of 85.  A Resident of Rochester, NY for all of her adult life, Ginny was known by many as a friendly, sociable personality who loved nothing more than conversing with people.

Born in Rochester, NY to parents Harold and Ada Rosentreter, Ginny was raised with the finest of values.  As the daughter of a military father, she moved about as a young child from NY to FL and points in between.   As a teen, Ginny truly found her “voice”, and took after her father with the most beautiful singing voice.  Likened to that of an angel, her high soprano was very well known and was truly a special gift.  In addition to music, Ginny also loved animals and had a fondness for songbirds.  She also cherished the dogs she had rescued through the years.

Ginny was predeceased by her youngest son, James “Jimmy” Viola; her second husband, Edward Koneski, and her loving parents, Harold and Ada.  She is survived by her son, Michael (Suzanne) Viola and daughter, Linda (Gary) Plate, grandchildren Sara and Thomas Viola; uncle James Rosentreter, and several cousins and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date for family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ginny’s memory be made to  Sunset House Hospice by clicking the link or by mail to: Sunset House 3746 St. Paul Blvd, Rochester, NY 14617

May every songbird you hear, remind you of beautiful Virginia.
